A rising nearly-full moon is illuminated by the late-day sun as a long shadow crawls over the foothills of California’s Diablo Range. The trio of oak trees along the sunlit ridge, about to be consumed by nightfall, felt like a picture waiting to happen. I caught it with my camera just moments before a surprise bank of fog swept over the hill behind me, putting a swift end to golden hour and changing the mood completely. © Rain Hayes
