Bayside Folly

Isle of Skye, Scotland

In architecture, a folly is an expensive building without a purpose. This particular folly was built as a collection house by Captain Fraser, a reputedly terrible landlord of Uig on the Isle of Skye. Fraser was ultimately unsuccessful in his military-backed efforts to oppress his tenants - the army retreated and the people retained their homes. The little building stands as a reminder of the people’s strength and courage. In my modern alternate reality, I imagine Fraser’s folly as the summer playhouse of a small child and her mini-pony. © Rain Hayes
